Blue Mosque

Generally, everyone knows Hagia Sophia but there is another religious place just opposite to Hagia Sophia which is called Blue Mosque.
Why is Blue Mosque called as 'Blue' Mosque? The real name of Blue Mosque is 'Sultanahmet Camii'. The name is given because when you get in the mosque, the walls are surrounded by blue tiles.
When should I visit Blue Mosque? You can get into Hagia Sophia between 9 am to 7 pm, each and every day. However, it may not be the same for Blue Mosque. Since the mosque still in use for worshippers, you need to be aware of closed times because of pray during the day. Because worshippers are praying five times a day, non-worshippers are not allowed to get into the mosque half an hour after each prayer time. Avoid visiting Blue Mosque midday praying on Friday because for Muslims it is a holiday and every Muslim man come to the mosque to pray. So, the mosque will be closed and crowded during that period.

How should we dress up to get into the mosque? Like many churches, Blue Mosque has some specific rules to get in. However, there are few differences. ​​ First of all, when you get into the mosque, you need to take your shoes off. (Please do not leave them unattended, it may be stolen. So, the best way would be taking them with you and there are bags over there. So, you could put them into a bag.) For ladies, mosque provides you headscarf, you need to cover your hair with it, otherwise, they may warn you if you do not follow the rules. Do not worry! It is not complicated at all and I promise, it is worth it! Btw, please do not wear shorts or short skirts :) For the gentleman, please do not wear shorts. When you get into the mosque, please do not use flash to protect the historical place.
