Eberhard Karls Universitat Tübingen from Merve

About accommodation, does the university have any dorms for students or do students have to find accommodation on their own? If the university has the accommodation opportunity for students, is it easy to get into the dorms? If the student has to find on his/her own, is there any easy way to search it such as site, application or anything else.
The university share a housing service with you. Its name is “Studenwerk Tübingen”. It is easy to get into dorms, if you apply in specified time period. If you apply late, there is a possibility that it does not plan a room for you.
For students, in order to have no problem while they are going to university, which places would you recommend them to find room?
Actually Tübingen is a smaal city, so it does not matter but WHO is the best option I think. French area is far away from the university and options of busses are limited.
According to classes in Koç University, do you think the university you went was harder or not? How many courses you recommend them to take to prevent any difficulty?
I take IR lessons so I can only comment about IR lessons. I think lessons in Tübingen is harder than Koç. Attendance is required and you have 3 absence right. After that you have to write a summary of missing class. If you choose a seminar, you need to read at least 30 pages before every lesson, so you can join the conversation. You need to write reaction papers, term papers, make presentations. There are so many works to do!
If I compare with Koç, I said that:
Koç: 5/10
Eberhard Karls Üniversitat Tübingen: 8/10
Do you think the campus utilities were satisfied? Why?
I think it was satisfied. I only use classes and the library and the library was good so I like it.
As a student who live in the city that the university is located, how is the life around the city?
It depends on that what you expect. If you like a small cities, natural environments it is a good city for you. You can rent a bicycle, make walking and hang out at the student cafes or parties. But I do not like so much, cause food options are limited. And I prefer big cities so after 1-2 months, I get bored.
What do you think about students clubs? Did you join any of them? Which one is your favorite?
Actually I did not join any club. But I also do not remember the active students club.
Could you tell us about the cafes and dining centers in the university? Did you find any Turkish Restaurant next to the university or in the city?
There is a lot of Turkish restaurant in Tübingen. Most famous one is the İstanbul at the Neckarbrücke.
How was the library? Is it easy to find a spot in average day or in the exam week? What kind of utilities has the library? If anyone wants somewhere except the library, what woulf you recommend them?
The library is large and very quite so I think it is very suitable to study.
Does the university have any spor clubs? What kind of sports are famous and fun to play in the university? Is there any swimming pool?
I do not have information.
If anyone wants to play instrument, could they find any place easily? Is there any instruments that are taught during the semester?
I do not have information
For the courses, do we need to buy books or is it any cheaper way to get it?
It is not necessary to buy a book. Teachers upload the readings to İlias, which is a similar platform to Blackboard.
Is there any health clinics in the university? What can students in case of emergency or injury?
Actually I did not heard anything about the health clinic in the university. Students can go to houses of private doctors in case of injury.
Is there any bank automat in the campus? What does a student do if they wanna have bank account? Does it necessary? Do locals in the university area mostly use credit card or cash? Is it necessary to bring some cash with us?
You need to open an account at “Kreisseparkasse” bank. You will pay your rent via this bank. Yes it is necessary, it is required by the dorm.
You can put money to your student card if you do not want to use cash.
During the Visa application, do you have any recommendations or something that is not easily found online that you may share with other students to help them out in this long process? Which parts do students need to focus on?
Actually the visa process was quite quick. You do not have to translate documents which were written in English, but you need to translate Turkish documents to German. Another tip is, if you do not want to lose time with too many documents, you can ask your family to put the money which is needed for 5 months. After you take the visa, they can get back the money. It is just quick way to provide financial trust to German authorities.
