After so many different small cities in Germany, Munich may be a great option to see different view of Germany. Munich is quite crowded but you can get around easily. As many other cities, transportation is convenient way to discover the city. However, if you are a person who does not like discovering city by transportation, it is also possible to walk everywhere. I did it and survived. Therefore, I assume it is not hard.

As you can see the picture above, all the places are close to each other.

Things to Do

Marienplatz

This is the place where the city hall is. As many other German cities, Munich as well has central square. It has been the city’s main square almost 900 years. Compare to many other cities, Munich is a historical city.

Munich Residenz

It was a royal palace of Wittelsbach monarchs of Bavaria. Unfortunately, it was destroyed during IIWW. After the war, it has been reconstructed. Even though it doesn’t feel historical since it is just constructed, still give some inside about history because the palace is constructed just like the former one.

Frauenkirche (Cathedral of Our Dear Lady)

It is one of the landmarks that has the story behind it. Do not forget to check out the foot sign in the church. It is called “The Devil’s Footprint”. According to the legend, the architecture Jorg von Halspach needed money to construct a new church. Therefore, he made a bargain with him. The only condition for church to be build is that there won’t be any window to celebrate the darkness of Devil. After the church was constructed, devil got into the church to see the church. At the beginning, he was fascinated by the light even though there were no windows. However, when he continued a step further, he saw the windows and got angry. He stamped his foot on the ground and marked the floor with his black footprint.

Additionally, since there is a restriction for the height of construction in the city, this church is one of the biggest buildings in Munich. Towers are about 100 meter high.

Hofbräuhaus München

This is an old restaurant which has been serving traditional Bavarian cuisine since 16th century. I did not eat inside because I am vegan but if you like German cuisine, this is the place to go.

Guten A petite!

Victuals Market

One thing I love about European countries is that they all have markets which you can get goods from fruits to meat & flowers. This market has been running about 200 years and that is so fascinating!

Maximilianstraße

It is the upper class neighborhood which you can find many expensive brands such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Chanel…

River Isartor

I love lakes or rivers in any cities and this river was one of the best for me because the water was so clean and according to what have told me it is quite cold but the view was breathtaking. In my opinion, the best time to travel Germany is during Fall. The colors of trees are amazing. I am fascinated by them. Some friends of mine, believe the best time is end of August or during August because there won’t be any rain for sure. If you are coming after middle of September do not forget to bring umbrella!

Museums

German museums are quite nice because they are usually student friendly and in Munich, if you go to museums on Sunday, it is either 1 euro or free. (Except BMW Museum)

Prefer Sundays explore museums and do not forget the student card!

Deutches Museum

It is kind of a technical museum and I heard that everyone is recommending this place to see. However, I did not since I am not really into the technical stuff. If you are, it is highly recommended.

BMW Museum

After visiting the Mercedes and Porsche Museum in Stuttgart, I thought I also must go to BMW Museum, since I am a big fun of BMW. However, it was a bit disappointment for me. I loved both Mercedes and Porsche Museums but not BMW. They did not have much cars on display. Maybe the story behind it is not that fascinating. I do not know but I also do not want to affect your decision to please if you are willing to go there, do not change your mind because what I am thinking about the museum but lower the expectations compare to Mercedes Museum.

There are many different museums such as Alte Pinakothek, Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site, Pinakothek der Moderne.

Olympiapark

If you are a football fan or into seeing big teams’ stadium, then definitely this is the place to go in Munich. It is a bit far from the center but it is right next to BMW Museum. One of my friend told me that the store is closed on Sunday, if you want to buy souvenirs, keep in mind!

As you can see from the headlines, there are so many things to do in Munich. I have already been in Munich twice and I loved the city. It is perfect to live and travel.
